PROJECT: The Lane Cove Tunnel is a AU$1.1 billion, 3.6km twin tunnel that is being constructed in Sydney, Australia.

PROBLEM: To address the complexity of the project Thiess decided to develop a 4D model of the overground intersection to aid in traffic management planning and stake holder communication.

SOLUTION: JetStream was used as a 4D tool that allowed textures and photographic draping, lighting control, and also directly links to the schedule and CAD drawings.

RESULTS: The process of developing the 4D model highlighted a number of issues in the traffic management plans, the current schedule, and in access to critical sections of work.

PROJECT: The construction of Heathrow's Terminal Five (T5), worth £3.75 billion. One of the UK's highest-profile construction projects and one of the most logistically complex in Europe.

PROBLEM: BAA has set itself the target of using technology to reduce this cost by 10% or £375 million.

SOLUTION: A single 3D computer model was created that BAA and its project partners will use to design, build and ultimately maintain the terminal building. JetStream is used as a process checker and to view, review, detect clashes and extract information from the single building model.

RESULTS: JetStream has allowed BAA to refine their procedures to avoid and detect clashes at the design stage.

PROJECT: One London Wall, a a highly complex 19,000 m2 prestige building.

PROBLEM: MillTechnology worked with contractors on the project who would each be carrying out their part of the building services coordination individually.

SOLUTION: MillTechnology provided a complete fully coordinated, virtually clash-free model in JetStream, from data supplied by all parties.

RESULTS: Having a unified model of the project resulted in fewer errors, fewer clashes, and better communication with the client and the building services contractors.

PROJECT: 30 St Marry Axe, the 40-story Swiss Re Building in the heart of London's financial district.

PROBLEM: The team needed to find a better way to view the full model dynamically to coordinate complex designs and eliminate clashes.

SOLUTION: Skanska used JetStream's navigation and interference detection to plan and manage installation sequences and to identify areas of the design requiring attention.

RESULTS: Using JetStream the design team knew prefabricated modules would not interfere with the existing site structure and aligned with services already installed, first time, with the minimum of site rectification.

PROJECT: Mechanical and electrical services for eight of the exhibition zones within the Millennium Dome.

PROBLEM: The complexity of the Body Exhibition structure (i.e., the hoops, skin supports, primary and secondary steel work, and pedestals supporting the raised floor) ensured that the co-ordination would be a very difficult process.

SOLUTION: Crown House used JetStream to identify clashes, and communicate the design between the site operatives and the co-ordination team.

RESULTS: JetStream allowed the Millennium Dome project team to realise their own design constraints and achievements and to ensure that their design systems will also work.

PROJECT: Redevelopment of Basingstoke town center, one of the largest town retail developments in the UK, worth an estimated £110m.

PROBLEM: Laing wanted to be able to identify inaccuracies in the design that would affect the sequence of the construction program.

SOLUTION: JetStream, allowed Laing to combine over 100 project models and navigate through the design so they could view the cut-throughs and elevations of different sectors to make informed decisions on scheduling.

RESULTS: The team identified a serious problem in the construction sequence prior to the building phase that would have otherwise caused a a significant delay resulting in huge costs in terms of time and money.

PROJECT: Shell UK's Stanlow Manufacturing Complex. The third-largest of the 53 Shell refineries worldwide.

PROBLEM: Shell needed a solution to simulate new plant designs.

SOLUTION: JetStream allowed them to determine best-practice processes for operation, health and safety at the new plant, and to train plant personnel.

RESULTS: Using JetStream, Shell was able to show everyone how the new plant would operate before it was built.

JetStream helps out at Lenzing Technik: Site inspection in real time.

Metre by metre engineers trace the run of the pipes and check the layouts of the machinery, exposing the smallest of defects and detect trouble-spots. Yet the installation is not even built yet. It only exists as a virtual model, yet thanks to JetStream imaging software the entire plant can be given a tour of inspection just like the real thing.

The use of JetStream by TPS Consult was highlighted in UK journal AEC Magazine when they published a case study about the first project undertaken by the company based on the 3D object model approach. Autodesk Architectural Desktop was at the heart of the process, providing a wealth of information downstream and JetStream is used by TPS Consult to view large model files and detect clashes.
